McElderry Residents’ Community Inc.

The McElderry Community group is a volunteer group of concerned citizens who initially mobilized to formalize objections to the request for a zoning change to permit the construction of a purpose-built student residence on the former St. Matthias Church property at Kortright and Edinburgh Roads in Guelph.

Our goals are:

  • to inform the community about developments which may have an impact on the quality of life in our neighbourhood
  • to maintain contact with city officials to ensure that bylaws are respected and applicable codes are being adhered to
  • to foster a sense of community and mutual support among residents

Say Yes 2 McElderry!

Thank you for visiting the McElderry Website. Here you will find answers to important issues facing the City of Guelph today. Our efforts are on behalf of all citizens of Guelph. We stand for responsible, well thought-out, appropriate planning of our city. We encourage development and understand that Guelph has been selected as one of the communities to grow over the next several years.

Join us as we oppose the specialized zoning application now under appeal at the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) by HIP Developments.

If this can happen in our neighbourhood, it can happen anywhere.

Who: we are over 500-people strong, joined together for a common cause – keep the former St. Matthias Church property zoned institutional.

What: HIP Developments wants to build a 6-storey, 81-unit condominium residence to house 325 students, on the St. Matthias Church property at Kortright and Edinburgh.

When: NOW is the time to join us as this is a City-wide issue and we are leading the way.

Where: 171 Kortright Road at the corner of Edinburgh and Kortright Road

Why: If we do not want a Solstice 3  built on this property we have no choice but to oppose the OMB appeal.
